Michael Baechler is a Senior Program Manager in the Energy and Engineering Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). He has been at PNNL since 1984. Prior to that Michael was a building auditor and inspector and helped to design the deployment program for the City of Portland's energy policy. Mr. Baechler has worked with the Building America Program since 1998 on research projects and on documenting best construction practices across the program. He co-chaired the 2008 ACEEE Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings. www.pnnl.gov

Jim helps oversee strategy, finance and communications for McKinney Builders. He and Mac joined forces in 2012. Prior to his current role, Jim was a banker to home builders and developers for 28 years. Jim has a BBA in Finance from the University of Georgia and a MBA in Real Estate from Georgia State University. Jim is passionate about high performance homes, timeless architecture and building communities that look as good 100 years from now as they do today.

Their company is the current and historical leading builder in Serenbe where they have built nearly 50 homes in their tenure. Other communities include Pinewood Forrest and the Gardens at Arbor Springs. Both the Gardens and Pinewood Forrest are communities of high performance homes, 100% of which will be anchored by Geothermal.

Chuck Chippero is a purchasing and supply chain professional with over 15 years of experience in residential construction. Today, he is the National Director of Strategic Sourcing at PulteGroup, Inc. As President and General Director of Pulte Home Sciences, he led the development and implementation innovative residential building technologies. Chuck has over 20 years of operations, supply chain and engineering leadership experience in the automotive industry both in the United States and abroad.

Glenn is directly responsible for all aspects of IBACOS’ work with homebuilders. This work includes the development and delivery of construction Best Practices® knowledge tools, content, and technical consulting services to leading homebuilders nationwide. The PERFORM® program, as it is named, increases a builder’s bottom line by improving the builder’s quality and performance. Glenn helped lead the ground-up development and expansion of BuildIQ®, the building industry’s first online education system for production homebuilders, and has spoken at many industry conferences on the subject of adult learning. In 2014, he began a journey into quantifying the true cost builders pay for quality—both investments made to ensure good quality as well as the price paid due to poor quality. His unique insight and perspective have opened opportunities with many of the nation’s largest production homebuilders.

Craig Drumheller is the Director of Construction Codes & Standards for the National Association of Home Builders. He has been involved in code development and energy research for over 18 years.
In the last code cycle, Craig authored three successful proposals that permit ducts to be buried in attic insulation.

Ms. Dwyer manages the DuPont™ Building Knowledge Center, a national network of experts who shape insights, tools and resources to help members of the building industry navigate the changing future. Central to her role is harnessing the knowledge and skills of DuPont Building Innovations professionals to deliver enhanced value to customers by sharing best practices in building science and application knowledge.

Ms. Dwyer was named manager of the DuPont™ Building Knowledge Center in 2011 after two years as the North American Residential Marketing Manager for DuPont's Building Envelope and Surfaces businesses. From 2002 to 2006, she helped create the DuPont™ StormRoom with Kevlar® business and served as the Residential Channel Manager for DuPont™ Weatherization Systems. During this time, Ms. Dwyer became a voting member of NAHB's Energy Subcommittee, a member of the Energy and Environmental Building Alliance Board of Directors, and an active participant in Green Builder Media's Emerald Circle. She is also a member of the IECC – Commercial Energy Code Committee for the upcoming 2012/2013 Code Development Cycle.

Ms. Dwyer joined DuPont as a process engineer for the Automotive Finishes plant, during which time she was the Color Technology Product Manager, Marketing Communications Manager and then New Business Development Manager for the OEM/Fleet Finishes business. She joined the DuPont™ Tyvek® Construction business in 1999 as Western Regional Manager and National Retail Center Manager until 2001 when she moved to the DuPont™ Corian® and DuPont™ Zodiaq® business as Regional Remodel Sales Manager.

Ms. Dwyer earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University and her Masters in Business Administration from the University of Delaware.

Philip Fairey has more than 30 years of experience in building science research at the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) where he has served as Deputy Director of FSEC since 1990. He has had primary responsibility for more than 30 major building science research contracts totaling more than $14 million. Philip has extensive expertise in combined heat and moisture transfer in buildings; heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems; building energy efficiency; humidity and moisture control; indoor air quality (IAQ); energy codes and standards; computer simulation and modeling; and building energy-efficiency rating systems. He is the author of more than 40 peer-reviewed technical papers and more than 100 technical reports. Philip is also an active member of ASHRAE where he currently serves as a voting member of SSPC 62.2 on Ventilation and Acceptable Indoor Air Quality in Low-Rise Residential Buildings and SSPC 90.2 on Energy Efficient Design of Low-Rise Residential Buildings. He also serves on the International Standards Organization’s TC163 WG4 on Energy Performance of Buildings. Philip has been a member of the RESNET Board of Directors since 1998 and has served as President of RESNET twice, once from 2004-2006 and once from 2008-2010. Philip is currently a member of RESNET’s ANSI-accredited Standards Development Committee 300 and is Chairman of RESNET’s Standards Management Board.

Chris Gibson is the Director of Marketing and Business Development at Owens Corning. He is directly impacting growth through his leadership at driving the profitable design, construction and marketing of high performance homes. Throughout his career, Gibson has led the corporate, marketing and innovation change strategies of leading organizations within the building materials and hardware industries. He joined Owens Corning in 2013. Prior to Owens Corning, Gibson led the turnaround of a luxury architectural, interior design and marketing services company as its President and CEO. He has held senior leadership positions for manufacturing companies--leading change through new venture and business model development, e-commerce and product innovation. As a marketing strategy consultant, Gibson built an analytical consulting practice that led to the creation and growth of several marketing strategy products. In that role, he had a positive impact on the strategic and tactical marketing practices for companies such as DuPont, James Hardie, Sherwin-Williams, and Armstrong World Industries. Mr. Gibson represents Owens Corning as a Board of Trustee for the Leading Suppliers Council of the NAHB and serves as a Board member for EEBA—The Energy and Environmental Building Alliance.

Aaron Holm founded Blokable in March of 2016 with a mission to make housing accessible and affordable for everyone. His experience leading business and product teams includes spearheading product management for Amazon’s first two physical retail businesses, Amazon Go and Amazon Books. In 2012, Aaron co-founded Mylio, a software startup creating solutions to protect and organize large libraries of personal photographs and memories. He was also founder of GLOBALedit a global leader in digital media software and services, where he built a world-class team and customer base including NBC, Warner Bros, Victoria’s Secret, Sony Pictures, Gap / Old Navy, CBS, and Publicis.

Pat Huelman is an Associate Professor in Residential Energy and Building Systems with the University of Minnesota's Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering and serves as Coordinator of the Cold Climate Housing Program with the University of Minnesota Extension.  He is a lead faculty member for the Residential Building Science and Technology undergraduate degree program and a co-investigator for hygrothermal testing at the Cloquet Residential Research Facility.  Pat is the Principal Investigator and Project Lead for NorthernSTAR, one of the Department of Energy’s Building America Teams.

Aaron Johnson Aaron Johnson works with the homes team in the Indoor Environments Division of US EPA. He has a background as a third party verifier and consultant in new residential construction, as well as diagnosing health and comfort issues in existing homes. Aaron is a qualified RESNET Quality Assurance Designee, Rater Trainer, and Building Performance Institute Quality Control Inspector

JOE LSTIBUREK Joseph Lstiburek holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering, a Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Building Science. While still an undergrad, Dr. Lstiburek ran his own home building company; during his Master’s degree, he developed the Air Drywall Approach to air barriers. Other formative experiences include developing the Canada-wide Super Energy Efficient Housing R-2000 program and serving as senior engineer on commercial construction projects for Trow in Toronto. Dr. Lstiburek founded BSC in 1989 and he has been a key figure in establishing BSC as one of the most influential, innovative, and respected building science firms in North America. Dr. Lstiburek is also an acclaimed educator who has taught thousands of professionals over the past three decades and written countless papers as well as the best-selling Builder Guides. Fittingly, the Wall Street Journal has described him as "the dean of North American building science." He has a joy for telling tall tales to his protégés and audiences.

Eric Makela, Senior Associate, is the team lead for the Codes and Standards team at Cadmus Group. Eric’s building energy codes expertise spans 30 years, numerous states, and countries as diverse as Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Fiji, and India. Makela served on the ICC IECC Code Development Committee for four cycles, and now represents the Northwest Energy Codes Group in developing IECC code change proposals. In addition, he represented DOE on a team that developed a commercial code change proposal for the IECC that resulted in a 25% increase in efficiency over earlier codes. As a partner in Britt/Makela Group, Eric oversaw commercial and residential energy code compliance studies for 4 states and 4 large cities. Makela served as a senior member of the U.S. DOE Building Energy Codes Program where his focus was on outreach and education to states and national stakeholders including the International Code Council, Building Code Assistance Project and the Regional Energy Efficiency Organizations. Over his career Makela has trained in over 20 states to the building, design and enforcement industry in a variety of venues. Makela was a recipient of the 2009 Jeffrey A. Johnson Award and the 2008 Canyon County Habitat for Humanity Volunteer of the Year. He has a B.A. in environmental studies from Sonoma State University and an M.A. in education from California State University, Sacramento.

Lew Oliver, an Atlanta-based, urbanist, master planner, and designer, has advanced New Urbanism for a decade. He and his company,  New Town Solutions, have been involved in developing land use plans for a number of prominent developments including Pinewood Forrest, Fayetteville, Georgia; Hartness, Greenville, South Carolina; Serenbe; and Town of Vickery, both in Atlanta.

He will share experienced gained from dozens of projects that focus on creating walkable neighborhoods that respect the land and incorporate well-designed, high performing homes.
His neighborhood designs incorporate a European flair to create a lifestyle make it easier to interact with neighbors and reserving about half the land as natural landscape that can be used for passive parks and recreational parks.

Bill Rectanus is currently the Vice President of Homebuilding Operations for Thrive Home Builders in Denver, Colorado. His responsibilities include the management and oversight of the construction, purchasing and customer service departments. In addition to his daily responsibilities Bill is also responsible for the implementation of Thrive Home Builders’ “High Performance Building Initiative”, its advancement, and research and development of new systems and technologies.
Bill is very active in the Denver homebuilding industry serving on the Board of Directors for the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver and formerly as Chairman of the Flatirons Building Council. In addition, Bill has been a session speaker at many industry and energy efficiency conferences.

Scott started building high performance, energy efficient infill homes under the BrightLeaf Homes brand in 2012 hoping to find the balance between his experiences with large production homebuilders and small non-profit organizations. Scott studied Construction Management at Illinois State University and interned for Centex Homes (now part of the Pulte Group) before moving to Washington DC and working as a Project Manager for Ryan Homes, part of NVR Group, the nation’s 4th largest home builder. After spending a number of years there, he moved back to the Chicago area and worked for a nonprofit organization responsible for assessing and coordinating energy efficiency improvements to low income housing. This opportunity gave him a unique insight into how homes have been built over the past 100 years and how energy efficiency and varying building methods can affect their long-term durability and cost of ownership.

Scott left that organization in early 2012 and began laying the groundwork to grow BrightLeaf Homes into the best known high performance home builder in the Chicago area. As a National Association of Homebuilders Certified Green Building Professional and Certified Master Builder, Scott had the expertise and ability not only to design the company’s original floor plans and building envelope assemblies, but also to interact with and educate, and of course manage the sub contracted Trade Partners on site during construction. Under the current BrightLeaf Homes brand Scott is responsible for coordinating much of the over-arching business strategy for the company and handles the financial reporting and analysis. Scott’s passion for high-performance building is manifested in the company but rooted in a personal focus on sustainability in his day-to-day living and community involvement.

Suzanne Shelton is president and CEO of Shelton Group, the nation’s leading marketing communications agency focused exclusively on energy and the environment. Clayton Traylor is a nationally recognized housing policy expert.  He has over twenty years of industry experience in both the private and public sector.  He is currently a consultant for Leading Builders of America (LBA) a trade group representing the largest homebuilding companies in North America.
Clayton began his career in housing with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) in Washington, DC. When he left NAHB in 2005, he was Senior Staff Vice President responsible for state and local government relations, land development and construction codes and standards. 
In 2005, Clayton joined Centex Corporation as Director of Government & Industry Relations.  In this capacity, he led Centex’s lobbying activities with emphasis on tax, mortgage lending and stimulus policies.  He also developed Centex Energy Advantage, the company’s signature conservation and energy efficiency initiative.

Dr. Iain Walker Dr. Iain Walker is a scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and leads Residential Building research in the Whole Building Systems Department. He has more than 30 years of experience as a building scientist and his current work focuses on residential buildings: developing smart ventilation technologies, indoor air quality scoring and rating, deep energy retrofits, design and construction of zero/low energy homes and HVAC system diagnostics. He is an ASHRAE fellow and is Executive Editor of Home Energy magazine. He leads and contributes to many standards and technical committees for ASHRAE (Standard 62.2), ASTM (E779, E1554), RESNET (Standard 380), ACCA and other state and national agencies. Dr. Walker has a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University Of Alberta.

John has been with Lennox International for 21 years and amassed broad industry experience with time in product engineering, marketing, sales, business development, service, and technical support with their Commercial HVAC division; as a General Manager with their Service Experts division; and most recently leads Product Management for their Residential division. He received his Mechanical Engineering (BSME) degree from The University of Vermont and his MBA from The University of Texas at Arlington.
